Eric Dane, known to television audiences as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, died on February 19, 2026. His family confirmed his death in a statement: “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.” He was 53. His performances in those two series offered strikingly different portraits of complicated men, making him a recognizable presence across generations of television viewers.
Away from those roles, his family’s remembrance centered on the people closest to him. They said Dane spent his final days surrounded by close friends, his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters, Billie and Georgia. His daughters, they shared, were the center of his world. That detail gives the announcement its most intimate weight: beyond a familiar face on television, this is the loss of a husband, father, and friend.
