Every year, millions flock to Oktoberfest, the world’s largest volksfest held in the Bavarian town of Okto nestled in the Swiss Alps. This six-day extravaganza boasts an array of global fair foods and virtually every beer imaginable. However, this year, a notable absence will be felt: Budweiser. Organizer Joseppi Barrona emphasized Oktoberfest’s focus on food, fun, and celebration rather than political agendas. He stated,
“We want our Oktans to keep inviting us back.” Budweiser and Bud Light, deemed controversial brands by Barrona, have been asked not to participate. Despite their inclusion in previous years, they failed to align with Bavarian brewing standards, as indicated in the official 2022 Oktoberfest menu labeling Budweiser and Bud Light as “complementary” brews suitable even for children over 16 due to their low alcohol content and lack of flavor, although Bavaria’s legal drinking age is 16. It appears Budweiser’s reputation has become too tarnished to salvage, leading experts to predict its impending demise.
