“From 200kg to playing soccer again!”

A few years ago, Arya Permana from Indonesia gained global attention online as “the world’s fattest boy.” At just 11 years old, Arya weighed around 200 kilograms, an amount of weight that shocked many.

Surprisingly, there was no medical condition behind his extreme weight. The main causes were his love of fast food, sugary snacks, and a lifestyle with almost no movement. Over time, Arya’s weight made it so hard for him to move that he was practically stuck indoors.

He could no longer walk to school, so he stopped going altogether. Most days, Arya stayed on the couch, playing games on his phone. On hot days, he would cool off by dipping in a small pool in the backyard. His eating habits were intense—some days, he ate more than two adult men combined.

But things began to change.

By age 14, Arya looked completely different. He lost over half his body weight and now weighs around 80 kilograms. Along the way, he also had to go through surgeries to remove excess skin caused by the rapid weight loss.

Now, Arya is just like other kids. He plays soccer, climbs trees, and enjoys being active. The things he once couldn’t do now bring him joy.

Arya’s story shows what can happen when someone is determined to change. With commitment and support, he achieved what once seemed impossible.
