A tiny bump can shake a teenager’s confidence just before the spotlight hits. With a recital approaching, a spiky growth on her neck can turn excitement into worry—and make a quick fix feel irresistible. But before a parent reaches for tweezers or wart remover, there’s a reason to pause: that seemingly simple solution could leave a much bigger prob…

A thin, fingerlike neck growth could be a filiform wart, but skin tags and other benign bumps can look similar. Appearance alone cannot confirm the diagnosis. Filiform warts involve skin-infecting HPV types; a possible wart does not imply sexual activity. Before the recital, gently wash the area, pat it dry, and reduce rubbing from necklaces or costume collars. Avoid picking, cutting, shaving over it, or applying wart treatments to an unidentified growth, especially on delicate neck skin.

A doctor or dermatologist can identify the bump and discuss treatment if needed. Arrange an assessment if it persists, grows, changes color or shape, becomes painful, bleeds without injury, or develops redness, swelling, or drainage.

Keep makeup off broken or irritated skin. An otherwise uncomplicated bump generally need not mean missing the performance. The immediate goal is comfort, not overnight removal—and helping your daughter feel ready to enjoy the moment she has rehearsed for.
